Ping G20 New Version Driver Reivew

Since Ping unveiled its last G series driver, the G15,we have waiting for a long time to its next version to land. Well, good news, the G20 finally landed.

A large, variable-thickness face generates faster ball speeds and increases MOI across the hitting surface for power and forgiveness. Golf Clubs  The 460cc clubhead is made from Ti 8-1-1, a lighter, lower-density alloy. Ti 8-1-1's high strength-to-weight ratio allowed for additional weight to be strategically placed, increasing the MOI on both the vertical and horizontal axes.

The Ping G20 Driverhas a heavier head than G15 (7 grams more than standard) for greater force at impact. Additional backweighting and a more elongated face shore up misses. (Ping "shaved" the head in the low toe area to meet the 460cc size limit.) The reconfigured clubhead — 5 percent higher moment of inertia on heel or toe hits — combines with a light, 45.75-inch "high-balance point" shaft (TFC 169D or TFC 169D Tour) to boost clubhead speed and, thus, distance. Specifically, the TFC 169D shaft has more flexible tip and butt sections for softer feel.

External weighting helps launch the forgiving Ping G20 Driver with a high, low spinning ball flight for maximum distance and accuracy. PING's proprietary high-balance-point TFC 169D shaft creates a higher MOI and generates faster ball speeds enabling golfers to swing a clubhead with more mass at the same speed, for longer, straighter drives. Its high strength-to-weight ratio increases the MOI and allows additional weight to be strategically placed on the head.

The Ping G20 Driver felt very good and certainly had some pop to it. The head looks massive and has a more low-profile look that I expected. Interestly looks more like a Callaway designed crown, but I do prefer the lighter colour to the former G15 look. The Tour Shaft did make a difference and added a more penetrating ball flight to my swing. Easy to hit, and can get the ball in the air, probably perfect for a 10-20 handicapper.
