I bought these last week, I went form x-20s to the JPX800 irons, At first these felt very difficult to hit, I wasn't used to a stiff shaft, forged club head etc, but I took them to the range and got used to them, and now I couldn't imagine not having them. I've been on the hunt for new clubs for quite a while now. My favorite part of these clubs is that being a 15HCP Mizuno made a club I can enjoy that doesn't look like a brick at address, and has a great feel, very soft off the face. I'm totally impressed with them.
The distance these Discount Golf Clubs achieve is nothing short of spectacular. For me, it was actually too good in my first round with them. I actually over shot a couple of targets, though after a couple more rounds with these in the bag. With becoming more familiar with them and that problem no longer exists. What a great problem to have though, right? Dialing in those three quarters and half shots will also take a little work, with a little more touch on my part as well.
The Mizuno JPX-800 irons are a big jump into the game improvement category for Mizuno Golf. Sure- they have other irons in this space but most people know and respect Mizuno most for their game-enhancing line of muscle back and blade irons known for their amazing feel and precision. In my opinion there was a big gap between the MX-1000's and the MP lines of clubs and the JPX-800's a full-fledged jump into that space, providing 8 to 24 handicappers with a truly remarkable option; a club with the feel Mizuno is known for combined with the game improvement qualities desired by many of us like forgiveness and increased distance. I don't want to ruin the rest of my review- but mission accomplished!
Higher COR along with higher MOI equates to consistently longer and straighter shots, even on miss hits. The milling process also allowed Mizuno to progressively offer more forgiveness in the longer irons while maintaining traditional playability and shot making in the short irons.
The Discount Golf Sets do get the ball up in the air easily, but a lot of the game improvement irons I've hit really take the ball insanely high in the air in an effort to go longer. That is not the case here. Ball flight is penetrating and boring and is pretty workable up and down. Some irons I've hit have made it nearly impossible to go low, but the JPX-800 Pro does not fall into that category. The flight was actually lower than I had intended - so low that I thought it would skip off the back of the green, but instead it landed, bounced once, and immediately checked up. I couldn't have been happier to leave the wedge in the bag on that trip to the putting green.
